JP Donovan Construction is Hiring an Industrial Painter Near Rockledge, FL

SUMMARY DESCRIPTIONUnder general supervision, performs routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects including, painting large structures in severe corrosive environments; performs inspections, clean ups, storage and disposal of paint products; and operates various tools and equipment.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIESThe following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.1. Perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, such as high steel andstructural steel painting, sand blasting, powder blast and preparation for enamel, epoxy,bitumastic, and latex painting.2. Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces including, aluminum, ferrous metal, interior drywall,woodwork, shop coated metal, uncoated metal, finished hardware, accessories, light fixtures,plates, and other surfaces as specified; protect and prime surfaces as appropriate; apply finishcoatings to Mil Spec requirements.3. Apply protective coatings to items such as equipment and miscellaneous metalwork; metalworkin corrosive atmospheric areas, subject to toxic fumes, wash down, flooding or abrasion; andtanks, vessels, and hoppers constructed of aluminum or ferrous metals.4. Apply zinc chromate primer to aluminum surfaces in contact with, or embedded in, concrete andto all faying surfaces of bolted aluminum joints.5. Repair shop coats and apply coats of specified paint to motors, gears, switchgear and othersimilar equipment.6. Apply finish coats on electrical switchgear, switchboards, and control panels.7. Repair shop coats, prepare surfaces, and field paint equipment.8. Paint required galvanized surfaces per specification.9. Remove shop applied protective coatings from equipment by sandblasting; perform field blastcleaning as specified; remove dust by brushing, vacuuming or air blasting; remove heavy depositsof grease or oil from surfaces.10. Correct work as directed; repair nicks, scratches, or other small imperfections in the finish.11. Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local occupational safety, health and air pollutioncontrol regulations including Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and with all safety precautionsrecommended by paint manufacturer.12. Clean up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices andprocedures.13. Prepare and submit requests and supportive documentation for obtaining necessary approval touse substitute materials.14. Determine and apply appropriate coating systems for painting ferrous metals which may/may notbe subject to submergence in water, sewage, or corrosive environments.15. Maintain safety standards in the performance of duties.16. Determine appropriate colors and coatings for various surfaces according to standard guidelines;obtain necessary approvals; and operate inspection equipment.17. Perform masonry waterproofing, exterior masonry staining; maintain acoustical tile and factoryapplied finishes and caulking; and perform preventive maintenance.18. Perform related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONSThe following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties.Knowledge of:Principles and practices of City municipal codes and regulations.Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to occupational safety, healthand air pollution control.Methods and techniques related to painting in specialized areas and work environments.Methods and techniques related to the safe use, storage and disposal of paint and cleaning productsand chemicals, and safe cleanup techniques and practices.Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.Compatible and incompatible paints and substitutions.Trade specifications and painting requirements.Ability to:Perform painting maintenance in assigned work area.Work independently in the absence of supervision.Perform a variety of painting related tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weatherconditions.Perform heavy manual labor.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of workEducation and Experience Guidelines Any combination of education and experience that would likelyprovide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilitieswould be:Education/Training:Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by training in the paintingtrades.Experience:Three years of progressively responsible painting experience in an industrial/commercialenvironment.License or Certificate:Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate and valid driver’s license.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENTThe conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
